Richelle has an academic foundation in Chinese Language and Culture, having studied from the age of 14. She has spent time living in Shanghai, China studying at Fudan University and working at ShanghArt Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in Shanghai and Singapore. While with ShanghArt she translated gallery materials from Chinese to English, and later revised the translation of a formally published exhibition catalogue, Trespassing 2013 - Yang Zhenzhong.
Her background in Asian Works of Art started as the assistant cataloger for the Asian Works of Art department at The Potomack Company in Alexandria, VA. While there she handled, cataloged, and valued large single owner collections of Asian Works of Art including the Hauge Japanese, Chinese & Southeast Asian Collection. She also worked on large groups of Japanese Satsuma porcelain and Japanese Prints. Her more notable projects include procuring, cataloging, and selling a Pair of Chinese Huanghuali Continuous Yokeback Arm Chairs for a total of $190,000.
After working with the Potomack Company, Richelle relocated to Texas to work under renowned Asian Works of Art Expert, Lark Mason. For six years, Richelle oversaw both auction house consignments and formal appraisals. While working under Lark Mason she handled Asian Works of Art across all cultures, some pieces upwards of $200,000. She worked on high end individual objects, prominent American collections, and worked with institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Freer Gallery of Art, among others. Richelle continues to collaborate with Lark Mason and assist him with appraisal projects.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Richelle worked closely with Asia Week New York to coordinate and run a series of monthly webinars focused on different areas of Asian Works of Art. She worked with presenters and experts from top institutions in the United States as well as from around the world including Japan and London.
Richelle has appraised Asian objects across multiple cultures and time periods including, Chinese porcelain from Song to Qing Dynasties, jade, snuff bottles, Chinese Huanghuali and other Furniture, Tang Dynasty pottery, and Japanese prints and works of art.
With a strong market background in Asian Works of Art, Richelle is glad to assist with collection management or consulting for larger collections or single objects. She is fully qualified to perform appraisals for Asian Works of Art for insurance purposes as well as for IRS functions. Richelle is also glad to assist other appraisers or auction houses with identification or Chinese translation.
